This blog chronicles the pheasant hunts my family and friends have made to Spink County, South Dakota since before I was born.
The hunt started in 1957 when my father, David, was inspired to hunt pheasants in South Dakota by a film shown on Harold Ensley's TV show, Gone Fishin'. He contacted Mr. Ensley and inquired as to how to get started. Harold Ensley put my father in touch with Lefty Muehl of Frankfort, South Dakota and a tradition was begun.
The hunters' favorite beverage, served cold at the tavern in Frankfurt, was a "red beer" which was a wide-mouth Stoors, into which a concoction resembling Snappy Tom but with more tomato, was added.
