This blog chronicles the pheasant hunts my family and friends have made to Spink County, South Dakota since before I was born.
The hunt started in 1957 when my father, David, was inspired to hunt pheasants in South Dakota by a film shown on Harold Ensley's TV show, Gone Fishin'. He contacted Mr. Ensley and inquired as to how to get started. Harold Ensley put my father in touch with Lefty Muehl of Frankfort, South Dakota and a tradition was begun.
In the Beginning
In 1959, Lefty Muehl introduced my father, to a farmer near Frankfort named Albert Wipf. Lefty had explained that Albert had never allowed hunting on his farm but that he might if he felt comfortable with the hunters.
